I love visiting the St. Louis Coffee Oasis. LOVE. I first ate at the Oasis way back in 2006 after a long day of apartment hunting. I ate a few more times and then kind of forgot about it as I explored what was then my neighborhood instead. Flashforward to 2010 when I'm trying to make up for all the time I've missed by eating at the Oasis once a month. Seriously, what was wrong with me? I'm kicking myself for letting this place slide off my radar for so long. As everyone has said, the owner is beyond fabulous. He often does everything himself -- cooks, serves, brings water, checks up, mans the register, etc. Because of this, some time might pass between his checkups to your table, but honestly, you never really notice. You're too busy going over the extensive menu of yumminess, diving into your delicious meal or listening to him get verbally playful with diners. He's a treat to dine with, and I'm thrilled that he calls me and everyone else in the joint "my friend." I honestly believe he's sincere when he says it. I usually go for the the falafel plate. It's a toasted pita covered with lettuce and onions, covered with hummus, and piled with falafel. Others have remarked that the falafel may be too try for their tastes, but I actually prefer a drier falafel over a moist one. I think the crispy bread-like substance allows the spices and other flavors to shine a bit more. I usually end my meals with an order of baklava (during my latest order, the owner joked, "What's that? 20 pieces of baklava? Coming right up!"). There are three kinds of baklava available with different kinds of nuts. This isn't the drippy, syrupy kind of baklava (though I love that, too) -- this one is flakier and drier, with an inside that sort of reminds me of the crumb topping on Grandma's apple cobbler back in the day. I love it, and I could easily eat more than any girl should. There are other desserts too, but I haven't tried them yet because I keep revisiting the baklava. Prices seem a bit on the high side (My falafal plate is about $8, and my baklava runs about $2.50), but I'm happy to pay it because the atmosphere at the Oasis is so jovial. Moreover, you can sit for as long as you like and enjoy wifi and people watching. The Oasis is smokefree (yay!) and is just a few blocks north of the CWE Metrolink station. Parking? Pshaw. I love taking the train and not worrying about any of that. The #1 bus also runs up and down Euclid.

Go there for breakfast and get the omelet. I'm just saying.

Decide to go here for a meeting a 6pm. There were 5 of us and each ordered a drink or an appetizer so we weren't sitting there for free. There were 2 other tables, each with two people at them. The man who served us and I would assume was the owner looked at his watch and said "I hope your meeting doesn't take long, it's dinner time." What?! There were 10 other tables open. After the other two tables left we were the only ones there for an hour. We will never go back after that, even making sure we patronized the restaurant. Rude.

Have been past this place many times and have been meaning to try it and I am very glad that I did. I went there for a late lunch and the owner happily greeted us as he was cooking and as other reviews have stated - not only did he cook, he cleaned, prep, bused, and served. He is an amazing one man operation. When he came to take our order he asked if we knew what we wanted - being the first time at a place I always like to ask whats good or what they recommend. Well this place is a little different when it comes to that - he didn't neccesarly recommend anything more as told us what we were having. And being the first time here... it was going to be the gyro deluxe plate. And frankly there were no questions to be ask - so we went with it and boy was it delicious. He sliced generous fresh meat off - cooked it up - and it was in front of us in minutes - served open face with everything that a gyro should have in it. By far was one of the best gyro's that I have had. And I am sure it would live up to the claim as the best in gyro in st. louis (based on what other reviews have said). He asked if we wanted anything to drink besides water, I said yes and hesitated as to what - and he quickly narrowed it down for me - "Would you like a coke? me- ah well (as I glance to the menu) - Owner - OK no coke for you - you will have a coffee - I'll bring it out to you." And with that he was gone making me a cup of delicious jo! It was a good choice - they have a lot of great coffee sections on their menu and it fit perfectly with my meal and more importantly my next choice - the sweets! Again we asked what was good... and he quickly pulled us to his counter to show us. Basically he said you will have the pistachio Baklava, (sadly one of us is allergic to pistachio's) so he said that is to bad my friend but no worries you will have one with walnuts (he also makes it with cashew - Who knew baklava was available 3 ways?) I had the pistachio and oh man, I really liked it... a lot!! And when I say a lot... I mean I probably could of taken the whole pan and ate the whole thing. It was not over soaked in honey... although it was cold and hard to cut it was perfect to pick up and eat with fingers. It's is probably one of the best pastries I have had since I moved down to STL. As we were leaving the owner said, "I hope to see you again my friends" and next time I will make you the felafel! Although you'll probably want the gyro again because it's that good!" He is right on all accounts - he will see me again, I am eager to try the felafel - and I do want the gyro again. (why did it have to be so delicious?? WHY???) All in all - go here, try it out!! It is a great experience, and I love the fact the owner is a one man show and loves what he does, AND loves the fact you came in!!

This is the top of my go-to places for lunch, a weekend breakfast or casual meal. Authentic mediterranean food. Best Giros in town. The coffee is labeled "rocket fuel" and trust me, it is.

Food is amazing, the chicken shwarma is so good. The owner is the nicest guy ever.

I didn't mean to come here the first time I did. In fact, we were just looking at the menu when the owner chef promised us a delightful meal and before we knew it, we were seated with food in front of us. He said that if we disliked it, we wouldn't have to pay. He came back an hour later to find that we had polished off our plates! Since then, I've been back numerous times. My bf has been here each time he's visited also! The owner does everything - from waiting tables to preparing the food to collecting the money. In all the times I've been here, I've only seen 1 other person in the kitchen with him (who seemed pretty new to the whole deal). He's very capable and extraordinarily friendly, greeting everyone he meets as "my friend". I typically order the chicken shwarma and it seems like a lot of the dishes are prepared very similarly (observation when I'm here with friends) - a pita beneath, hummus or taziki, your choice of meat, abundant lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers. It seems light, yet is tremendously filling. In fact, I once asked him why the pieces of meat were so thick - I had had my share of authentic mediterranean food and have never encountered meat shaved as thickly as the one here. He responded with "In America, if you don't give the customers thick slices of meat, they don't think they are eating much. Americans eat more. In my home country, no one eats it like this." I'm not complaining at all! The chicken is always really tasty and juicy. I have yet to try the coffee or any of the sweets but intend to someday. The prices are a little steep and lunch and dinner prices are the same. Come here to feel like you're meeting an old friend and enjoy a healthy meal while you're at it - you've got all the main parts of the food pyramid!

Pretty good Greek food in a solid location in the Central West End. The food was delicious. The Mediterranean Sampler Plate was really good and got a nice tasting of the falafel, hummus, tzaziki, and Greek salad. The falafel was decent, but a bit dry and nothing special. The hummus and tzaziki were pretty good and the Greek salad was exceptionally nice. The Gyro Plate was also delicious, the lamb was surprisingly excellent. The coffee and pastry selections looked excellent. Like other reviewers mentioned, I immediately noticed that the owner of the restaurant was the only person working the night we went. He was very friendly and confident that we would love his food. Our service only suffered a little bit due to this, but I'd think it could get pretty bad when it's busy. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable, especially for dinner (maybe a little high for lunch). I look forward to going back.

Great food. We eat Mediteranian quite frequently, and found Oasis to be possibly the best quality we've ever had. The coffee was a little expensive, but he offers some unique options that make it very enjoyable

Another yelp found gem. The owner of this place is a trip, he's all over the place, taking orders, serving, cooking! While busy he will take the time to talk to you and do whatever you ask I got the Mediterranean plate and it was pretty good. Falafel was dry, but hummus was great. The gyro meat was the best I have ever had, amazing. Since one of my best friends is from Jordan, I had to try the Jordanian ice cream. While at $7.50 a scoop it's expensive, it was worth trying.

I don't get here as often as I like, but when I do I am reminded I need to come more frequently. Pleasant atmosphere, really nice owner (who I'd like to see get more business, really nice fellow), and excellent baklava and gyros. Definitely a good stop in the area, and the best gyros I have had in the metro area.

I am a HUGE fan of the eggplant and gyro. I will travel across town for the stuff. I urge all of you try it, especially those who think they don't like eggplant, because this will change your perspective. It is that good. The chicken kebab is also a favorite. I have a soft spot for owner run places, and this is clearly a labor of love. The owner is there day and night, cooking and waiting. The place is clean, the food delicious and filling. No preservative type of aftertaste in this food.

Yummy in our tummys. We started with Lebni Plate then I had deluxe gyro and my husband had spinach pie. All of it very good. Owner is host, waiter and cook and he is great. Wish I lived closer so it could be a go-to place for take out. One recommendation - install a baby changing station in restroom.

This is one of my favorite places to grab a gyro in St. Louis. Yes, I know there are a lot of places that serve gyro (from a cornucopia of countries) but this is probably Top 5. Their secret, in my opinion: they grill the pita bread. While not "traditional" by other people, a grilled pita gyro is manna from the gods. It definitely justifies those unnecessary veggies and feta that come along with this great sandwich. Oh yeah, they also heap on the feta: a plus to me. There's also a great selection of Middle-Eastern pastries, which are sweet and rich. The baklava is syrupy good and melts in your mouth... Considering there's still room after one of their gyros. Apparently, they know a thing or two about coffee and grind their own beans and brew fresh to you (on request.) But you can also have the house coffee from one of the dispensers if you're on the run. They know their customers. This is a family-run joint and they make you feel like one of their own.

Informal, friendly atmosphere. Gyros plate was fabulous. Also had excellent cheesecake. Can't wait to try more.

This place stands out among establishments on Euclid because it offers something different. Most of the dishes are light and flavorful, and one is guaranteed a positive dining experience here. But none of the dishes really stands out, and I have tried most of them. The gyro, while solid, is overseasoned. Coffee Oasis is like a Middle Eastern food truck in the form of a sit down cafe. I imagine the offerings are the equivalent of hamburgers and hot dogs. Although they are prepared with care and attention, they are not special. This place is what it is, pleasant cafe for a lunch if one were looking for something different from the other restaurants.

This place is nothing short of solid. The owner is a fun guy; likes to joke around with the customers. The food is great. It reminds me of Saleem's on the loop (which is now closed as you might already know). Only they have coffee! I had a turtle latte. Not like the shelled creature, but like the candy. Anyway, good food and fun atmosphere. A win all around.

I have eaten a lot of Mediterranean food. This place has to rank at the top. I had the vegetarian plate and my wife had the stuffed eggplant. First off the hummus texture was unique in that it was more like a tahini sauce. The taste was excellent. The falafel was also unique in that it had a very different taste then I was used to. The owner was very nice and (sarcastic) which I liked. My wife's stuffed eggplant couldn't have been any better. We also ordered the Zatar bread. Warm pita bread with some olive oil and this mid-east spice mixture called zatar which I believe is a combination of seasame seeds, oregano, sumac, salt and other herbs. It was delicious. I am a vegetarian so I cant say for the meat dishes but everything on my plate was done to perfection including the salad.

The owner of this place is a bit of a push over. He will literally order for you. So just a warning make sure you know what you want before he comes to your table and DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT ask any questions, because it will lead to "I will just make it for you!" ANNOYING! I must say though, his food is delicious, his lamb gyros are perfectly seasoned and yummy. I think that his prices are overly priced, but the taste is all that matters. It's a clean place and he is the owner and the waiter, I don't know how he can juggle so many people at once. Good for him.

Stopped by trying to find an open cafe for a snack and dessert on Friday. At only 9pm, almost everything else was closed in the area. Luckily, we stumbled upon Coffee Oasis, where the owner was indeed, quite the friendly man. We split the Mediterranean platter with gyro meat and extra grilled pita. The falafels were the best I've had in STL so far. The gyro meat was surprisingly not too salty. The spreads and salad were tasty and complemented each other well. Turkish (here, Arabic) coffee was enough for 2 or 3 small cupfuls, which is way more than you normally get. Really rich, strong, tasty and served steaming. There is a bigger tea selection here than I've ever seen. Same with flavored syrups. Any combination you choose is sure to be a treat. $15 hookah, but only 2 flavors and outside. It made for a nice outdoors lounge and people watch. Pastries were top notch: rugelach in cinnamon and chocolate and pistachio baklava was tasty, but I missed any hint of rosewater. Only downside: it was a lot more than I expected. The food and hookah are very reasonably priced, but the coffee, tea, and pastries are a little expensive. I will, however, definitely be back.

During my ongoing quest to find a good place for falafel, I stumbled across this delightful little place. The food was great and the owner is a very charismatic fellow. When I unthinkingly used a fork to spread some of the fava dip (foul?) on my pita, he instantly began to expound on the glories of eating without utensils. He was preaching to the choir but I loved that he wanted to show me the best way to enjoy his food. There is a nice tea selection here and a great selection of pastries (mediterranean and non). The falafel was not too crunchy, was nice and warm, and was smashed onto the pita instead of being served to me as a hard little sphere (totally wrong). I dug it. Honestly, my only complaint about the place is that the food was a bit pricey. Falafel is cheap to make and should be cheap to eat. However, I'm willing to pay more to be happy with my experience and happy I definitely was.

A little pricey but the entree portions are decent and tasty. Ordered the hummus and pita appetizer to split between myself and another guest and was disappointed in both the hummus and the amount of pita given - needed more to mop up all of the hummus. Also the hummus was a bit on the runny side, which may only be a negative thing as a matter of personal preference, but I found that the thicker hummus served over at Pi to be more flavorful and satisfying. I got the Kufta kabob plate as the main meal and ended up eating it with a fork and knife. It came loaded with fresh veggies and banana peppers that added a good zing, but I would have liked more sauce (perhaps as a side item). Service was slow, but it appeared that the owner was the only one working (at least the only visible one), so this made sense although it was still annoying. Overall, not bad. If you want Mediterranean food, this should satisfy that craving, and would be a much better restaurant with some improvements.

The hummus is fantastic - silken and nutty with the slightest hint of olive oil. The mamul is wonderful! Not too sweet and wonderfully crumbly and buttery. The little owner, Belal, is frenetic but charming. I'd go here more to eat than for coffee, though I'm sure the owner would convince me he makes the best coffee around.

This is a really fantastic place for coffee, light mediterranean food, and Internet access. When I lived in the neighborhood I came here several times. The service was always excellent and the food was delicious. The guy who runs this place is insanely dedicated. He's open 12 hours a day and in two years (2006-08) I don't think I ever saw him not there. A great local business worthy of your support.

I just checked this place out last night after reading some good reviews here. It was definitely authentic (a big plus for me) and delicious. I had the Gyro Deluxe as was recommended and I was not disappointed. I had to use a fork and knife to eat it as it was way too large to fold into a sandwich. The lamb was thick instead of those thin, skimpy pieces you sometimes get with a gyro. The flavor was rich and the pita was absolutely perfect. The pita was warm and the best part was that it was grilled so that it had that ever so slight crisp exterior with a soft, warm center. Great. I also had the babaganoush as an appetizer. The lemon flavors and olive oil smoothness was just right. Again, very authentic. The portion seemed small to me at first but I shared it with my boyfriend and it was actually just right. For dessert I had a pistachio bahklava (sic?) and the only reason it wasn't great was probably because it was kept at too low of a temperature. The usual melt in your mouth, flakiness, was missing because it was too cold and firm. As to the flavor, though, it was right on. The owner was extremely warm and friendly but don't expect to be waited on hand and foot as the only other person working there was kind of slow. It didn't matter to me. The food was great and it felt like a local cafe straight out of a mediterranean country. Price is a bit higher than I would've liked but the food was definitely great.

As other reviewers have said, the owner of this place is a one man show and charmed me along with my 7 family members that dined there tonight. While the main dishes are good, they are not what really sold me on the place. I have hard time deciding on what pleased me more; the hummus and baba ghanouj, the taziki, deserts- (especially baklava!), or the incredible coffee. I had an Arabic coffee for the firs time tonight and it certainly won't be the last. While I wouldn't go there for the atmosphere that can be found at other coffee shops, the coffee is by far better.

This is a wonderful place if you like middle eastern food. I have tried a good chunk of their menu and have been happy every time (Their Falafels are a bit dry for my taste, to balance it out their Gyro,Qudsyah and Foule are very good!) Sometimes they make stuffed grape leaves (not on the menu) check with the owner (who as far as I can tell runs the place single handedly, and is amazingly friendly) you don't want to miss these if they have them.

I really love and miss this place now that I've moved home from college. I have only had the gyro and hummus, and one of the specialty coffee drinks, but I highly recommend all of them. I don't know if this is standard or not, but I love that the gyro comes with a pepperoncini. You get a generous amount of meat, and it's really tender, and perfectly spiced. If you are sharing the hummus, I suggest ordering extra pita, because the leftover hummus is too good to just throw away. The consistency is a bit watery compared to what you're probably used to being served as an appetizer in other restaurants, but it tastes amazing and I'm pretty sure the owner makes it fresh every day. Also, the owner makes all the food and waits all the tables, and is really nice and funny; always cheered me up despite the stress of school.

The food is fine, but, as you'll read in other reviews here, there is just one person tending (cooking and waiting) the restaurant. I was there with a 8-person group. After a ten minute wait, two of us got our food...the rest of us waited another ten minutes. Hiring a waiter would be a really good idea.

i love this place, why don't I come here more often? the man behind the counter is the sole proprietor I think, and he does it all. He's a really nice guy, very friendly and easy going. The gyros and hummus are the only things I've tried. I'm always telling myself to try something different but why? gyros and hummus are both delicious and always hit the spot.

My sister and I were looking to have lunch and stumbled in the Oasis. That was okay with the owner who welcomed us like family. The hummus was amazing! I love Mediterranean food and the menu had some items that we hadn't tried yet. Again the whole experience was not just the good food, but the way the owner (who was super busy) took care of us. I will be back as soon as I can!

  • Danielle W.

The Oasis & Med Cafe was decent, not great by any means. The owner however was the best part of my experience here. He was enthusiastic and excited to have us inside his restaurant. However, we did take out our food, and found once we got home that it wasn't all that it was cracked up to be. I ordered a chicken schwarma, and a Mediterranean plate, and my boyfriend got the gyro deluxe platter. Everything was decent. The hummus was good and so was the tzsadiki...but the gyro's were only fair. I thought overall- the Greek salad was delicious and I should have stuck with my instinct and stayed with the Greek Salad as my main dish. I would go back and dine inside, if I knew that the food would be better...

I walk past here on a regular basis on my way to work but I have never stopped in before today. I see many more delicious lunches here in my future. I had the gyro which was heaven on a plate. Lots of meat and tzatziki sauce but not lacking in the veggie department with lots of lettuce and cucumber and huge slices of tomato. On the way out I took a piece of walnut baklava to savor (more like devour) when I got home. Sweet but not overly so. And a big big plus is the owner who is so friendly and made me feel comfortable even though I have never been in before (and I usually hate trying new places by myself, I probably had that scared deer in the headlights look on my face when I walked in).

So, i had to downgrade from a 5 star...to a 4 star. I recently tried the falafel, as I don't eat meat anymore. I had high hopes, seeing as this was the home of the best gyro I have ever eaten. I was so dissapointed. NOT GOOD! :(

Saint Louis Coffee Oasis and Mediterranean Restaurant is a wonderful little establishment in the Central West End. The coffee bar is great and there are plenty of different lovely coffee drinks to choose from. My favorite reason for going there is the food of course. Any chance where I get to eat a gyro I always take up. The gyros are perfect. They are soft and juicy and there is no hint of it being over cooked at all. Seasoned just right, the gyro made a perfect meal.

Nice description, Rob. We just got some tasty take-out. We started with the Lebni, which really wasn't anything spectacular. The chicken kabob was way too salty. The Gyro Deluxe was spectacular tho. Ended on two amazing pieces of pistachio baclava. We'll be back to try the falafel & get some more of that baclava. And all those stories of Belal, the owner, being the nicest man on the planet are not exaggerated. He practically tongue kissed me on the way out.

I'll keep this brief. The food was excellent. Had the deluxe plate with the gyro meat. I really liked that he grilled the gyro meat a little to give it a better texture. Great flavors. Hummus was very smooth, had a velvety mouth feel. I think for the amount he is charging he could add a side of hummus and pita or side salad. Worth trying if you've never been, but you pay a lot for what you get.

3.5 stars. The food here is good, but not the best. I've tried a good amount of items from the menu: gyro deluxe, falafel plate, middle eastern plate (both with and without gyro meat), spinach pie (which was just ok) plate with hummus, hummus plate with gyro meat, and baklava. Everything comes out pretty fast. My favorite item is the falafel sandwich, open face. I top it with both hummus and tzatziki sauce. The hummus here is the best I've ever had. Seriously. It's so creamy and I know everyone calls hummus everywhere creamy, but the one they have here is not grainy...it's almost like a thick sauce. The gyro meat is really flavorful. If you get one of the gyro meat plates (i.e., with hummus or baba ganoush), it actually comes chopped up on the grill with tomatoes and what seems to be bits of lemon-great flavor. My only complaint is that the food is pricey for what you get. Portions can definitely be bigger or include some extras. Also, the food isn't really fresh. Everything is pre-made and heated up when you order, so he's not really cooking anything... If you like middle eastern food, give this place a try.

I fell in love with the Oasis over seven years ago. I used to frequent this spot ca. 2005/ 2006. The Gyro Deluxe platter was perfect...tender gyro meat, slightly toasted pita, creamy tzatziki, fresh veggies, and a magical seasoning that I couldn't find anywhere else. I frequented this place as much as I could just to do my part to help this then-burgeoning business to stay afloat. Seven years later, I'm here in St. Louis for an academic event, and its my unbelievable luck that the hotel is down the street from the Oasis. I made a bee-line to the Oasis, had the Gyro Deluxe and it was just as delicious as I remembered it from seven years ago. How's that for consistency?

Awesome food, great place, wish I lived closer As an aside: I've also given this place five stars because i was more than capable of holding the hot glass tea "cup" without burning my hands. This is how tea and coffee are drunk in many places around the World without the need for hand protectors and "caution this hot coffee that you just saw come out of a hot coffee machine may be hot and being that it's hot it might burn you like hot things have a propensity to do" warning nonsense.

Great Greek salad (have Belal add gyro chicken to it for a special treat)! Coffees are also great - finish with some baklava. Owner Belal, makes everyone who comes in feel like a friend.

I honestly can't speak highly enough of this place. I stumbled across it after work one night when I wanted greek food desperately, but to go. I walked in to a small, cozy cafe with coffee beans in large jars lining the walls with different, enticing flavors. When I ordered my gyro to go, the owner (who is also the waiter, the busser, the cook, the barista, and the clerk) was so kind and made small talk with me the whole time he bustled around making my meal. At the end, he thanked me and hoped to see me again. First off--delicious gyro, the meat was perfectly cooked, not dry, and the tzatziki sauce that was so refreshing I died a little inside. My next visit was soon after and I brought my friend along raving of it's charm and the owners knowledge. We sat outside and I was shocked that she had never tried Stuffed Grape Leaves, when I requested an appetizer sized portion (not on the menu) he nicely obliged and made them. My Chicken Kabob platter was delicious; the chicken was tender and grilled just perfectly and the grape leaves---wow. His hummus is also quite amazing, with seasoned, warmed pita--just, yum. We got baklava before leaving and the pistachio was just what I wanted. Such a sweet, chewy, incredibly amazing little pastry. He even knocked off some of our total because we took the time to truly talk and enjoyed his creations. He is such a speedy worker and everything is made fresh. Knowing that places like this are around, with owners whose true passion is to cook and simply please their customers is such a delight. I absolutely love this place and the coffee (hence coffee Oasis) is out of this world! Love the blends he has!

Walked in having had no knowledge of the restaurant; I basically just wanted a gyro or something like it. I moved to St. Louis literally yesterday. While the place wasn't busy, I was honestly blown away at how well prepared my meal (foule with gyro) was. The owner is an awesome guy, and his food speaks for itself. I live only a block away, so I imagine I'll be a regular... speaking of, as I was eating, the owner got a plate and a beer ready, and 30 seconds later a gentleman walks in and has his beer and plate waiting for him. Couldn't help but smile, and I wish the best for the establishment. I'll go as frequently as I can.

Delicious!! I got the deluxe gyro plate and shared a hummus plate... amazing. So worth the money for every fabulous bite! The owner is so fun and basically told us what to order... and he was so right! Can't wait to come back and try the baklava and everything else!

I have eaten here more than I can count and I will stress to you, that it will be the best you can find in St. Louis. Bilat is the owner and he works alone. He takes pride in the quality of ingredients and service. He is an extremely hard worker and will cater to your special orders. I order chicken gyros, and my husband gets a regular one. The gyros are HUGE and have fresh lettuce, tomato, and the meat is delicious and addictive. The gyros are sprinkled with imported spice (sumac). Bilat cooks with so much love and pride. There are so many varieties of coffee, soda, and desserts too... along with liquor licence. Please pay this place a visit. Once you are a regular, he will know you well and what you will order-even over the phone!!

Dear Diary: As a proud city dweller, I'm embarrassed to say that up until my dinner last week at St. Louis Coffee Oasis, I've never had falafel. Sure, it's been served at places where I've dined, but never have I been brave enough to try it. Until now. STL International Supper Club has forced me out of my boring food ways! I've been hinting at trying a falafel place and my request was granted. According to falafel experts on Yelp, St. Louis Coffee Oasis offers a pretty good version. But it's the service that's really unique. And I'd have to agree on the latter half of the argument. The owner is a funny little man who's a big ball of energy. He tells you what you're going to have for dinner... hopefully you wanted to eat a gyro or a falafel plate, 'cause that's what you're going to get! And not only does he wait on all of the tables, but he cooks all of the food too. Crazy! And how was the falafel? It was OK. If given the chance to go back and eat again at St. Louis Coffee Oasis, I'd probably order the gyro next time. Not sure if I'm a fan of the spice combo on this version of falafel. Or maybe I just don't like falafel? I'm going to have to try a few different versions before making a final decision. Regardless of my falafel experience, it was a fun night. I love restaurants with a little character and truly homemade food. And of course my fellow yelpers made it a memorable night :) Until next time... Abby

I'm so confused. All the reviews say this place is good and maybe it is, maybe it was the day I went. The waitress acted like my friend and I were an inconvenience to her. The food was edible but was no where near good. Maybe I'll try it again in a year or two.

We went here for dinner tonight and I'm so glad we did. The owner is the nicest man! He calls everyone 'friend' and is very attentive. I had the best chai tea I've had since returning from New Zealand (and that's saying something - cause all food and drink in NZ was amazing). I had the spinach pie plate which came with pita and salad and it was delicious. I wish I had room to finish it all. My friend was able to clear her plate completely and apparently returns here often. When I'm back in town I'll be returning!

I never pass up an opportunity to sample a new place that has falafel! So when the Oasis was chosen as the STL International Supper Club location, I jumped at the opportunity. Reading the reviews, i expected it to be even smaller than it was. It has a decent amount of seats. It couldn't be bigger with only one guy manning it! The service was a little spotty, which I expected. My food came out pretty quickly- more quickly than most of the others at my table. I had to sit and wait about 10 minutes before everyone was served (there were 11 of us). My food wasn't warm by the time I got to it. I noticed several other patrons who came in had to wait awhile to order, etc because the owner was cooking food for 11 at the time! He was personable and friendly. It was easy to split our checks, which was nice. When I got my falafel, I thought "crap! I should've ordered an appetizer" because it looked small. However, it really filled me up by the time I was done. The falafel wasn't warm, which I prefer. It really had an unexpected kick. The pita was really good. The toppings (lettuce, hummus, tzaziki) were yummy and fresh. You had to eat it with a knife and fork. I wished I could've picked it up with my hands. I ordered some hummus and pita to go, and it made an excellent lunch the next day! The hummus is really creamy. Overall, I enjoyed my dining experience. If I lived close, I probably would get carry out every so often when the falafel cravings set in!

One guy works, preps, cooks, cleans and serves! Great falafel and gyro! Phenominal arabic coffee. This place is a great place to just sit and enjoy a meal, a cup of coffee, and relax.

Went for the first time yesterday for lunch, great casual mediterrean food. We had a falafel plate, the chicken schwarma, and hummus appetizer all of which we were quite happy with. The owner is a blast to talk to and provides excellent service with a great attitude. I thought the prices were a bit on the high side but I will go back regularly anyway. Would defenitely reccomend trying this place for a casual lunch in the CWE. Ask for his homemade hot chili sauce if you like spicy food.

I haven't been to a lot of Mediterranean places but I can say this place is excellent. It's a small business, and the owner, Bilal, is very personable and friendly. He always greets you with "Good morning" not matter what time of day it is, and always calls you a friend. So yes the service is excellent, and so is the food! I've had gyros deluxe here and the foule many, many times. The Arabic coffee is excellent as well!

With its prime location at Euclid and Laclede, STLCOMC wins the awards for best people-watching locale and longest restaurant name. Many a lazy Sunday morning has been spent on the excellent sidewalk cafe. But as I write this in February, that warm, shady spot is a distant memory. So can the Oasis bring in the stars without relying on its lovely vistas? Yes it can. Every time I go there, the owner greets me like an old friend and is quick to take my order. A caution about the service though: the owner is a one-man show. Because he does his own busing, waiting, cooking, cleaning, etc. he doesn't have free time to check up on you. But just wave your hand and he'll be right with you. The food is unique yet entirely accessible if you're not used to Mediterranean, and it's delicious to boot! The indoor outlets and quiet atmosphere make it a decent study spot too. You can wait 'till warm weather rolls around before trying the Oasis, but I'm heading there now.

This is not a restaurant, this is a destination. I have, as of yesterday, officially eaten every single thing on the menu. And it is universally saliva-inducing. Quick pro-tip: get any one of the bowls in which he dumps a bunch of gyro meat on the fava beans, or hummus, or eggplant. These menu items are flat out genius. But this must be known.... be prepared to order food in a way that Americans do not order food. I often come in, sit down, and wonderful Oasis man says: I will bring you gyro platter. Or, I will bring you spinach thing. Whatever. Anything he brings out of that kitchen is spot on. Just let him do his thing. Which, I add, is a sort of performance art. I have been in that place for two hour meetings many times and seen it so packed that it runs through two sets of table turnovers. This guy somehow manages to: 1. Take orders. 2. Cook all the food. 3. Take all the payments without any tips. It is a wonder to behold. Like ballet, but with smoked paprika and coffee beans roasted by some exotic air roasting process. One last thing: The Jordanian ice cream is expensive. It is not expensive enough. I would seriously trade a tooth for one bowl of that pistachio ice cream he has back there. I have had frozen dairy stuff all over the world, this beats the ricotta/cinnamon gelato I once had in Florence.

This place is hands down one of my new favorite places in St. Louis. We came in for the first time after not being able to get a table at the Mexican place next door, and I've been back three times in the last three weeks. The owner/waiter/cook/cashier (it's a one-man show) is extremely welcoming and good at what he does. Beware though, if you hesitate in ordering he'll simply take the menu and bring you out what he thinks you want--but the kicker is that he's always right. I've had the chicken kebob plate as well as the gyro, and both are fresh and exploding with exotic flavors. I recommend finishing it off with a piece of homemade pistachio baklava, hands down the best I've had in St. Louis. This place is legit: Arabic music videos on the TV, and all the right spices for authentic Middle Eastern taste. The only downsides are that it can take a while if the place is busy, and it is a bit pricy for the portion size. However, the quality of the food and atmosphere more than make up for it. We'll be back soon!

First things first: If you haven't had a "Borgia," go get one now. What's a Borgia? Well, in this incarnation, it's a mocha with some orange juice. A bit wary? Don't be. It's delicious. Chocolate and orange were meant to go together. Next: The food. I got the Mediterranean plate. It was a bit smaller than I would have expected for $12, but it tasted great. The hummus, tzatziki, pita, and veggies were all very fresh and very flavorful. The falafel was...okay. I'm not sure if it's just a unique style of falafel, or what, but it's certainly not the type I was expecting. I'm used to crispy falafel with a moist, soft interior. These were kind of grainy all the way through. They were spiced perfectly, and they were still pretty good, but they weren't exactly what I was expecting. Finally: the service. When I went there, there was one guy (the owner, I believe) manning the whole place for lunch. He's a really friendly, inviting guy, and so good at his job that the service I got here is better than I get at most restaurants with a full staff. I will definitely be going here again, but mostly for the coffee, and to try the desserts.

This might be the best Greek food I've had in the U.S. I loved the stuffed grape leaves, and even their hummus is extra delicious. My friend had the baba ganouj with chicken and enjoyed every bite. I can't believe that it was empty when I went. Along with the standard Greek desserts, their menu lists a lot of dairy free desserts that I can't wait to try. Downisde is that only one person works there. Upside is that he is very friendly and a great chef. Also, you can call in pick up orders, which means you can avoid waitjng if it happens to be busy.

The outdoor seating, relaxed atmosphere, and European fare made me feel like I was back in Barcelona, eating gyros at an outdoor cafe. And I LOVED it. In the group of four, three of us got gyros and the other got the chicken shwarma. Everything was served open face and we ended up eating ours with a knife and a fork. The lamb in the gyros was perfectly seasoned and easy to eat (read: not at all chewy.. just how I like my lamb!). The hummus was the perfect condiment to my gyro and was ridiculously creamy. Yum-my! I loved how the owner-turned-server didn't rush us out by handing us the check. He let us just sit outside and hang out, even after he'd already picked up our cleaned out dishes (there was not a shred of proof that those dishes were used to serve gyros just 30 minutes before). For the quality, cost (less than $10!), and relaxed atmosphere, I'll definitely be back!

I love this place! My bf and I have been eating here for a few years and as soon as we walk in the door, the owner says "Gyro deluxe, my friend?" He basically runs the show there and does it all with a smile. The food is excellent and don't forget to try the baklava!

The food is awesome, and the proprietor is jovial and ambitious. He's happy to tell you what you'll be enjoying for your meal and beverage... but in a charming way. Most importantly, this is not your typical greasy greek food. As a Chicagoan, I'm familiar with delicious, but greasy gyros, etc. The type of thing you get a craving for every few months, but after eating it you lay around in the fetal position for a couple days. Not at Oasis... The lamb, chicken, falafel... it's all light and free of grease. The gyro meat is not thinly sliced, but centimeter thick, tender, juicy slices that are subsequently seared on the grill to give them a crispiness to the surface of the meat. The tzadziki sauce is made simply of greek yogurt and cucumber, and the entire gyro/shawrma is seasoned afterwards, keeping it light and delicious. These sandwiches are finished off with freshly sliced tomato, cucumber, lettuce and some shaved pepperoncini - a really, REALLY nice touch! For dessert, while everything looks tasty, I recommend the Baklava... very good. They've also got a nice array of european beers (Italy, Germany, Czech Rep. and the mediterranean are represented) I really enjoy it here. It's a nice, clean, authentic environment and the food is delicious. It's also never crowded... I think Oasis' neighbors, Wildflower and Tortillaria do a bit more advertising, but of the three, I'd prefer Oasis. Wait... let me rephrase... "I don't always eat on Euclid... but when I do... I prefer Oasis." Stay hungry, my friends.

After hearing great things about the food here, I couldn't have left more disappointed. Perhaps I need to go again and try something else? But at this point I am reluctant to do so. Despite the awesome owner, friendly down to earth atmosphere, and good beverages I was unimpressed with the food. I ordered a Shawarma plate which is what I typically get at Lebanese, Syrian, Palestinian places (mostly in Chicago)...what I usually get when I order a Shawarma Plate with hummus is a generous helping of hummus, some meat in the middle with olive oil, and pita bread. What I got here at Coffee Oasis was one piece of pitta laid open face on the plate with hummus on it, a thin layer of chicken, and the other half was all lettuce. I would have no problem with this dish if it was $5 and named Chicken Shawarma Sandwich, but a Shawarma plate at over $10 with tax? I was very disappointed and felt like I was ripped as I looked at the heap of lettuce on my plate. (& there was not really anything special about the dish it was not very tasty) I will be back to try something else...hopefully a better experience than the last. (there is a pic of one of these so called Shawarma Plates in the page pictures :D

We tried this place on a whim, knowing of its existence, but not always in the mood for mediterranean cuisine. I am so glad that we did. You might wait a bit to be served, but it's beyond worth it. Our experience was consistent with other reviews where the owner (?) cooks, cleans, waits, and buses. After he took our order, our appetizer (chickpeas in a yogurt sauce) was out in a couple minutes. He was happy to select a Stella Artois for me when I asked for a light beer. Our food quickly followed the appetizer, I got chopped gyro meat in hummus and fava bean puree, the gf got falafel. Both were moan worthy, even the pita was perfect: warm, lightly grilled and fluffy. We took some dessert home - turtle cheesecake and baklava. Do get some dessert if you decide to try this place! The owner was so friendly and makes you want to come back, the food is amazing and gives any other mediterranean food in STL a run for its money.

Tried Oasis for dinner last night with the Yelp crew - the adventurous International Supper Club - and was sooo glad I RSVP'd. The place is small but the service and food are top-notch. I started with a glass of Riesling, quite reasonably priced for the brand & pour size, and it was ice cold. We had a huge group, but the owner was joshing with us and took excellent care. I had the Mideast Plate: Greek salad, hummus, falafel, and tzaziki served w/warm pita. I also had some grilled chicken on top because, why not? The hummus was delicious - creamy and smooth. The tzaziki wasn't exceptional but it was also very good, and it came in handy as a dip for the falafel, which was very dry. I actually didn't care too much for the falafel because of some spice that was in it. I can't place it, but i didn't like it much. The greek salad and the grilled chicken were perfect - the chicken was a little browned but very flavorful and not dry at all. The salad was exactly the right size to go with all the dips. I definitely had more than enough to eat. I have tried a few different Greek places since I've been back in St. Louis and haven't been happy with any of them (though I hear Pita Plus is great, but WAY out there, and Renouche is also supposed to be good, too). This place made up for that with the food, and MORE than satisfied me once you account for the excellent service, reasonable price, and fantastic company. I'll be back, and this time I might just stick with chicken & hummus.

Excellent food, fun visit - the proprietor is a genuinely nice man who is a real hoot! If you don't know what to order, he'll tell you what you want...and that man is GOOD at it. Listen to him and enjoy your food (and your visit)! One more thing: the gyros really are to die for, and the chicken schwarma is top-notch, too. You just can't go wrong here!

Tried this restaurant based on yelper reviews. You all let me down on this one. While the service was superb, especially considering one guy does everything, the food was unimpressive. Had the gyro ($11.00). Meat was hard and dry, salad-vegetable topping was not fresh: completely dry and limp --I'd say at least 3 days old. The pita bread itself was fine. Thumbs down on this one for me.

I got the deluxe gyro platter, and my wife got the chicken gyro platter. Hands down the best gyro either of us have ever had. I didn't know what appetizer to get so the owner brought out a hummus plate with something mashed in it, and it was awesome. Tried the Arabic coffee with some baklava to finish off the lunch, which was delightful. We rolled away because we were so full. I only wish I had found this place sooner.

Holy. Freakin. Yum. Never had such great hummus in my life! So fresh and flavorful, but not overwhelming. I got the falafel plate, rolled as a sandwich. Really delicious, a little messy (grab napkins). It is one guy. So, don't go there if you're in a hurry, but actually he is really fast. I don't know how he does it all himself. But he is soooooo nice and his food is amazing!

This place is like a throwback to visiting Eastern Europe. Walk in and you'll instantly be transported to one of the many cafes there. Everything from the decor of the place to the smell of the food and coffee saturating the small restaurant make this place a gem in Central West End. Many reviewers have mentioned the owner and I believe he is a big part of the appeal of the restaurant. He is very friendly and you can tell he enjoys owning and preparing food for his guests. As other reviewers have mentioned, the owner both cooks and serves the food. It is a one man operation and this is also very typical of smaller cafes in Europe. As far as the food goes, I have only tried the deluxe gyro. I took the owner's suggestion on my first visit and I have been getting the same thing ever since. The meat was very well flavored and the veggies were crispy and fresh. I would recommend you check this place out at least once. Don't let the emptiness of the restaurant deter you.

We were at Barnes Jewish for the birth of our 3rd child, and I needed something besides cafeteria food. So I checked Yelp and found Oasis. Solid, solid Mediterranean food. I tried two things, because it all looked so good. Falafel Plate and Deluxe Gyro plate. The gyro was top notch. I will definitely get it again. I also liked the falafel wrap, but the taste of the falafel was a little lost in the rest of the wrap goodies, but the falafel and hummus in the wrap were great. So next time, I'll probably just get a side of falafel with hummus, and call it a day. Will definitely be back!

I really enjoyed my lunch visit today! The service was stellar and the food was delicious. I had the ever popular Deluxe Gyro. I loved the fresh vegetables - cucumber, lettuce, tomato, onion...and the lamb had a very nice flavor and char. Our meal came very quickly after we ordered. Everything was perfect. The service made the experience for me though - having the owner greet us; take our order; cook the food; check on us; and take our payment was awesome. I felt like his guest, not just a customer. His additional staff was also great- checking on us; helping the owner as needed; and chatting with us to make us feel welcome. I'll be back to get my Mediterranean fix, and probably try some scrumptious coffee and dessert! There were several syrups and coffee bean blends that I'm excited to try. There were also some tempting dessert displays as you walk in. Must. Try.

For full disclosure, I last ate at this place years ago. My experience was so bad, I'm not going to return. I was charged for dishes I didn't order, and the staff flatly refused to fix the bill into something I did order.

We used to live in the CWE around the corner from Coffee Oasis, our favorite breakfast place. We come back to St. Louis 3-4 times a year now and go back for their wonderful omelettes with gyro and melt-in-your mouth pistachio maamouls as often as possible. Coffee offerings are great as well - Jet Fuel my personal favorite.

Delicious Turkish coffee, super wonderful gyros, fast and thoughtful service from everyone's friend, Belal, and the foule muddamas and zatar bread are some of my favorites. I cannot understand why people go to the Wildflower over the Mediterranean Oasis. The food is so much better here.

Great food. Fast service. I ordered a gyro and it was as good as any other gyro I've ever had. I'm a big fan of good gyros and kind of picky about any gyros that are sub par and this particular place met my expectations and I had a delightful gyro. The service was fast even though I only saw one person working when I was there for lunch. Gyro.

Best. Hummus. Ever!!! So smooth & jaw-droppingly creamy! My husband & I ordered the gyro & falafel plate & were deliciously delighted! After the meal, I wanted a coffee, but could decide just which one (of the over 200 options) to pick. So the dear, sweet owner asked me a few questions & then created one just for me! So long Starbucks! THIS was AMAZING! WE WILL BE BACK!!

The food is really mediocre. If you've ever been to a good middle eastern restaurant you will be disappointed. The meet tasted fried and not grilled, tge vegetables were not crispy and fresh. The hummus was tasty but that's about it.

Yum yum! Quick, friendly service and good food. A great spot if you are going out to lunch during the work week or need a quick dinner. They also have an extensive alcohol selection if you are going out for an evening. The hummus is amazing. My personal favorite is the chicken kebab plate. But I don't think you can really go wrong with anything on the menu.

I give the manager a two thumbs up for taking care of everything, literally everything, all by himself! He was amazing at remember our orders from memory (10 people in our group!), keeping up on drinks, getting the food out fast, and just being a delight to talk to. I tried the Spinach Pie and I totally loved it! Spinach and feta? Mmmm. :)

If you're in the CWE for lunch or dinner, the Oasis should be on your short list. The food is excellent, the portions are generous, and the service is just about the friendliest you'll find in the city. Standouts include the gyros and hummus, and the baba ganough is the best I've had in a long time. The service is impeccable. The owner is always so gracious and welcoming, and he has an amazing ability to take large orders by memory without making a single mistake. You can tell he takes an incredible amount of pride in his work, and his warm attitude almost makes you feel like a guest in someone's home rather than just a customer in a restaurant, and that goes a long way with me. I'm not sure why this place is often overlooked by diners in the CWE. The businesses that flank the Oasis seem to do a lot more business despite being comparatively mediocre. Perhaps the CWE's clientele lacks a sense of worldliness despite the airs of sophistication. But don't let the open tables dissuade you from visiting this absolute gem of a place.

It is an amazing place full of old world charm. I was on a business trip and went there !or lunch and then twice for breakfast. Ask him to make an omelet as it was out of this world. Also checkout the antique coffee grinder. . Also get Arabian coffee. Bilal is a great host. I will return when un town.

Best Mediterranean in St. Louis!! Authentic and amazing!!! Not to mention the owner is always there cooking every meal, he knows his customers and is always smiling. Love this place. These are the type of small businesses that all should support. Not to mention get a yummy, healthy meal!!

I have no idea how this place is getting such good reviews. Makes me question the sanity of some Yelpers and the secret Yelp algorithm. I'm sorry, but you can't give this place 5 stars if you thought the food was just "OK" and you thought it was cute that the guy waits tables and also cooks!? Really? Is that all it takes to get 5 stars? I thought Yelp had something to do with FOOD people! The problem here is that the food is just not good (I've tried 3 times to make sure it wasn't a fluke). It's not good falafal and it's not good gyro/schwarma/doner or kofte. He doesn't really cook anything--it's mostly pre-made and not fresh food that is called Mediterranean and on top of it all it's expensive. If you are forced to go here, I suppose get the falafal and hummus, but I would suggest trying the many other restaurants next door. I am Mediterranean and I'm dying for really good mezes and schwarma/doner/gyro in this city. Let me know when it opens. In the meantime, I won't be going back to Oasis, otherwise my Mediterranean wife will leave me forever.

I don't know why this place was empty and the places surrounding it were swamped. The food here was great! We were in a hurry and every other place surrounding this had a wait. A nice gentleman sitting outside here told us to try it out, we wouldn't be disappointed. The owner is hilarious, even though we had menus in front of us he basically said, "meat or no meat" and we each answered and he ended up bringing a falafel gyro and lamb gyros. I can't speak to the falafel, but I had the lamb gyro and it was tasty! The pita was fresh and soft (I hate it when the pita is dry and hard) and the meat was flavorful. I would come here again for sure. Next time you are waiting in line next door at one of the other restaurants, take a chance and give this place a try instead!

I stopped by here on an afternoon to grab a cup of coffee on my way to work. I'm not sure if there are more workers normally, but the owner was the only one there. I'm honestly impressed with how well he (by himself) managed to serve several customers so quickly - what a one man show! He's really sweet and makes great recommendations as well. I ended up ordering a pistachio baklava with my coffee as well. I usually just go with a batch brew, no cream or sugar, whenever I'm in a rush. The coffee was really fresh, and had just a little hint of sweetness. I was pleasantly surprised. The baklava also was a perfect compliment to the coffee - flaky, buttery, and delicious. It was just the perfect amount of sweetness - enough to compliment coffee's bitter taste but not sweet enough where it's overwhelming. I didn't get to check out their normal lunch or dinner menu, but I guess that's going to have to be my next stop when I come back.

Due to a lack of decent coffee options at the Westin (see review), we stumbled out to our car in search of a palatable source of caffeine. This Yelp gem was nearby to our brunch destination which didn't open in time to feed our craving so the Oasis it was! My date had an Arabic coffee which is beans and water boiled on low for possibly hours until the beans disintegrate entirely and form a thick paste. Some water is added back to the paste and poof, Arabic coffee is served! He really enjoyed it and I savored my delicious, strong, not-burned latte. It was a homey little shop with delicious coffee, would love to try some of their food!

The man who runs this joint is good at what he does. Nice coffee drink selection and the food is yummy... Nice little date spot. If you are in the area, stop by and have a coffee, or a falafel :)

Tasty tasty...amazing food! I was a little nervous because the place was empty at lunch time, but I was pleasantly surprised. A perfect lamb gyro and hummus plate was delivered to my table and I couldnt ask for more from the food. Beware, you cant pick this gyro up; it's open faced and needs to be eaten with a fork and knife. Good portion sizes and very attentive service. My one complaint is that the table was preset with the water already on the table, so I didn't drink it...maybe it's me, but that doesn't seem sanitary! The menu could also use a good wipe down.

I'm sorry, but i have to agree with Joseph G and the other reviews that the food isn't good. I only gave it 2* because of the service, which was good and very friendly, but that only gets you so much. Other than that, I have had so much better, fresher meat that was cut straight from the spit. What I got: Chicken gyro plate Middle eastern plate with gyro Falafel on the middle eastern plate was dry and microwaved. How do i know this? because chef Mic was right in plain view and i saw them use it to reheat the falafel. $14 for microwaved meat? no thanks. The chicken and pork gyro looked premade and was reheated on the grill, which is better at least than with Chef Mic. The gyro was also dry. I've had succulent, moist gyro before so i know the difference. I would not pay the amount of money for what i got. I tried getting the chicken kabob but it was sold out, so maybe that's better? but for sure, avoid the falafel and gyro. Heck, if you see a microwave in the kitchen, that's a clear cue that the food isn't fresh. Hummus and Tzatziki was good though. I wouldn't come here again for the food.

This must have a high rating for the coffee, because the food and service was poor at best.

Amazing food. This place also has great coffee and baklava. Love coming to this place just for the coffee and sweets. They also have shisha with many flavors. Just as a tip try their falafel plate it's one of the best here in the St. Louis area.

Delicious eggplant ghanoush with tender chicken to go and prepared in 5 minutes...there's really nothing to complain about that and it sure beats any national, fast-food chain for lunch. The owner/cook/host was friendly and just knew I was in a hurry for good food.

This place is one of my favorite things about coming to St. Louis! Never disappoints. I like that I can walk in after not being in town for weeks, and the owner brings me the tea I like before I ask for it.

Everything we had here for dinner last night was amazing. The zatar bread appetizer was amazing, and both our entrees were super quick, super tasty and very filling. The owner who waited on us was also super sweet and kind to us. I recommend this place wholeheartedly!

It does not look like Mr. al-Ramahi needs any more positive comments or reviews, and his good reputation is well deserved. The falafel, spanikopita, coffee, and experience of eating at his great little restaurant are as good as I was led to believe they would be. The owner is also a great guy, friendly and inviting, and a do-it-all-himself jack of all trades. He has certainly earned the praise. I'm writing separately, however, to further praise the desserts. Dear sweet goodness. I've had baklava many times, and Mr. al-Ramahi's was the best. Easily. I don't know if he put LSD in the syrup or used walnuts cracked by Christ himself, but the pastries were incredibly delicious. The small piece I shared with my lady friend was not enough, but I was already so full of other great eats I did not want to appear further gluttonous, or fall asleep on the trip back home. The Mamuul (rose water pastry with similar nuts and goodness inside) was even more crazy good, and I because I'd never had it before, it set the bar for further Mediterranean desserts. Good luck, rest of the world. You'll need it to match the great tastes and experiences from St. Louis Coffee Oasis.

The first time I went here the food was absolutely delicious! And the owner is such a cutie! The last three times I've been here the food was pretty good. I gave it three stars because the last time I went there, there were so many mosquitos and I felt uneasy about eating the food. The owner could have resolved the problem.. I just haven't been back to find out. I'm definitely going to give it another chance because the food is actually quite good, and I enjoy the service. I'll keep you posted.

We love Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern food, have eaten at plenty of different places in different cities, and Oasis is one of the best! We had the falafel sandwich and the gyros with baba ganoush. The falafel is crisp (even though microwaved to rewarm) with strong herb flavors. It came on top of hummus (a little thin in consistency) with lettuce, onion, tomatoes, and a nice sprinkling of chopped banana peppers. Flavors here were really good. The gyro appeared to be sautéed in a pan (after coming off the roasting thing) with some bell peppers. It came on a bed of baba ganoush that was perfectly acidic and had a great smoky/char flavor. This really complimented the gyros meat well. The gyro itself was well seasoned and it's time spent sauteeing gave it a good crispness on the edges, though it did make it a little more oily. It came with a quartered warm fluffy pita. Overall the taste of the food was great. Portion size is a little small for the price. The highlight of the evening was the chef/owner. He was the only one working, serving about 8 tables and cooking the food, and managing to pull it off. We were in a bit of a hurry to catch the balloon glow, but the owner was gracious enough to work twice as fast to accommodate us. Despite a few minor execution flaws, and the smaller portion size, this place gets 5 stars, and we'll be back!!

$9 baba ganoush? So little of it too. And it was not that good. Falafel is tasteless. Was microwaved. Terrible. Do not waste money here. Hopefully St. Louis has better Mediterranean food somewhere.

Too expensive. Lunch was $46 for two entrees two coffees and one salad. Hummus was thin and runny. Stuffed peppers was bland. Even the water had an after taste. Very disappointed. We really were hoping it would be good. We are at Siteman almost every week. Too bad and would not recommend.

Had a gyro sandwich which was excellent. The sauce, cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce were all fresh and owner was nice. Not that many patrons though. Worth coming again.

My husband started going here when I was in the hospital and the service is amazing. The owner will bend over backwards to make sure you are happy and he remembers faces too, which is always nice. I love it here, even for just sitting and having tea (or coffee) on a warm night and doing some people watching. My husband loves the sweets but I'm really picky about that as a baker myself. He also raves about the coffee (I'm not a coffee drinker) and even buys some of the beans to take home for his french press ;) I take away a star because I hate parking in the CWE. It is a pain in the butt so we don't go much, to my dismay.

I passed by this place frequently and finally decided to try it, but I regret my decision. I came at around 5-6PM and ordered a gyro. Bad decision. The gyro meat was tough and chewy. I had to saw at it with the knife! It tasted like it had been cooking all day in grease. The pita bread was passable, and the gyro was piled high with fresh lettuce, and real tzatziki sauce. However, it was too overpriced for the quality of the food. I also ordered one pastry, which tasted about a week old. The owner is very nice though, it is unfortunate that his energy obviously isn't being spent on the quality of the food! I would probably not come back again.

Disclaimer: For me, it's tough to give an average or a bad review. My dear fellow yelper shared with me a great quote by Anton Ego of Ratatouille (a great movie): "In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read... But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. " So with all that to say, I was dining alone and ordered a Deluxe Gyro Plate ($8.99 - somewhat overpriced) from a very friendly owner (who was doing all the work - cooking, serving, cleaning, cashiering). The gyro itself was tasty (a good mixture of fresh veggies, feta cheese, & fine pita bread), but I wouldn't say this was the best gyro sandwich that I had. The meat was a bit old and looked like it was fried again to make it warm. I could only give three stars at best for this meal. But what I did recognize was the natural relationship/friendship that the owner had with many loyal customers - some of them were brining their own plates from the outdoor seatings to help out the owner. I definitely sensed warmth in this franchise. So before I rate this as an average restaurant, I decided to rate it one star higher for now and revisit with friends to try more items from their menu.
